A PC Guy Meets a Mac

I must say that a few years back I thought that I would never own a Mac of any kind. All I ever had from Apple was an iPod and I thought that it would stay that way. I always thought that OSX was nothing special and wasn’t really interested in ever getting a Mac. So now let’s flashback about a year ago when I got my iPod Touch. I really started to enjoy the device and went to the Apple Store numerous times to take some classes. It was there one day that I decided to stay and take one of the OSX classes just for fun. After taking the OSX class and various others I began to see OSX in a whole new way. I began to then see what some of the hype out there was all about. After going to the Apple store more and more often I finally decided to get a Mac. I wanted one because I really enjoy working with media like pictures and movies plus I do I.T. Consulting and some of my customers were getting Macs so I had to stay ahead of the curve.

It took me a few months to finally get a Mac, mainly because I couldn’t decide on which one I wanted. I finally decided to get one of the new Unibody MacBook Pros in December. I was set on getting an iMac for the longest time, but I really like the portability of Laptops and my other Laptop was seeing it’s age. Sometimes it’s great just to relax on the sofa and get some work done. Plus my desk can’t even fit another pencil and I didn’t want to buy another desk.

So after playing around with my new MacBook Pro for the past 2 months I really have to say that I am enjoying it a lot. When you first get a Mac it really comes with everything you need to start working. It has a great email client, browser, and programs like iPhoto and iMovie are just unbeatable and am enjoying them a lot. iMovie is what I use to make all my videos and it makes it very easy. I find that OSX is a very capable OS and very easy to use. One of my favorite features of OSX is Spaces. It is really something that every modern OS should have. Because I have a dual monitor setup with my PC I thought that I would get claustrophobic with a Laptop, but spaces has helped getting through that. I have to say that after using a Mac and playing with it, I now can’t live without it. It makes a lot of the things I enjoy doing fun and easy to get done.

I know that Apple products are more expensive than PC’s and this MacBook Pro was no exception, but it was worth it. Other laptops can’t compare to the look and feel of this MacBook Pro. The keyboard is great to type on, the screen is beautiful and the trackpad is very simple and easy to use. Now when I have to use a regular PC laptop sometimes it really sucks after using this trackpad. So all in all I am completely satisfied with the investment I made 2 months ago. I am still a OSX novice, but I am enjoying learning about all the ins and outs of this great OS. I don’t get much time to use it as I still must use my PC during the day for my business, but I do look forward to getting on my Mac when I can and learning more and more. So I guess I’m a Mac and a PC.

Great article John! I can relate to what you were saying. I used to feel the same way about OS X, that is until I bought my first Mac; a PowerBook G4 a few years back. And as you know, I’ve loved the experience immensely. Especially on this new MacBook Pro I’m typing on. :)
